Chemistry. More like Chem-mystery, amirite? 😹
For a lot of people, high school chemistry is one of the most, if not the most dreaded subject, and as a prerequisite for medicine, it's also one of the most popular. So here are a few basic tips to help you succeed in Chem and hopefully increase your score. If you're struggling, consider hiring a chemistry tutor to help you along the way.
Whether you have photographic memory or not, detailed notes are essential in such a pedantic and content-filled subject like chemistry. A chemistry tutor can help you understand what to focus on and how to take notes that will benefit you.
In chemistry, memory is the easy part, but understanding is what matters most when it comes to actual exam questions. An experienced chemistry tutor can help you develop your understanding of key concepts.
Staying on top of things is crucial for chemistry in year 12. Cramming isn't all that effective, especially once the going gets tough in the latter half of the year. A chemistry tutor can help keep you accountable and on track with your studies.
Revising the textbook and taking notes during chemistry class may not be enough for SAC and exam preparation. Doing relevant practice questions, especially ones from past VCE exams, can help consolidate your understanding of topics. An experienced chemistry tutor can provide you with practice exams and help you work through difficult questions.
The databook is a vital tool in chemistry. A chemistry tutor can show you how to use the databook effectively, and how to annotate it with all the notes you need. This way, you get used to having it with you and using it during the final exam.
Don't let chemistry stress you out any longer. Sign up for KIS Academics Chemistry Tutoring today and start achieving your academic goals!
As a year 11 student doing ATAR, I was looking for a tutor that could help me with French. KIS Academics was incredibly helpful and fast at finding me a wace french tutor who could assist me with my studies. My tutor Eliza Carey over the past few months has helped me so much not only in French but in biology and maths as well. I’m incredibly grateful for the effort and commitment she has put into helping me be more comfortable and less stressed about the subjects I was having difficulty with. It’s been nothing but an honour to be tutored by Eliza and I strongly recommend her as a tutor
“I got the top mark for my SAC which was really nice, and I think that’s all because of my tutor”
Medha / Year 12 Student
“It's been absolutely fantastic and it's just been a very positive environment for learning”
Amanda / Parent of a Year 7 Student
Hi! I'm Yaroslava but you can call me Yarra.
I graduated from Somerville House with an ATAR of 98.55 and am now studying Computer Science and Law (Honours) at the University of Queensland. I did Year 12 under the new QCE system during COVID, so I definitely learned a thing or two about studying smart, not hard.
The subjects I did were English, Maths Methods, Chemistry, Physics, Modern History, Chinese and Russian. I genuinely loved learning content for both STEM and humanities once I realized all the anxiety around long study hours was really unnecessary. I received 99/100 in English, 94/100 in Physics, the highest score in Queensland in Russian and academic commendation from the QCAA.
My teaching is enthusiastic, and my style is concept-centered. I make sure you understand the underlying ideas and relationships within the subject using clear notes and explanations before doing practice questions. While memorization is undeniably a part of some subjects, you'd be surprised how much can be logically explained away instead of cramming. My aim is to make sure you understand everything you need to know in the long term and tailor my teaching to you: the student.
I'm keen to help you achieve **your ** goals, whether it's learning content, assignment help, improving study techniques, or fostering a life-long love of learning!
Though chemistry tutoring is highly sought after, especially for chemistry tutoring in Sydney, however, getting a tutor for any subject is not something that can be answered definitively. It is completely dependent on whether you need that extra help or not. Chemistry tutoring is a great way to get ahead of what you are learning in school, improve your chemistry skills, or it may be a way for you to wrap your head around those concepts that don’t stick the first time you learn them. You might just get Chemistry tutoring solely to run through practice questions together and refine your approach. Ultimately, the decision to get Chemistry tutoring should be based on your needs for the subject.
A good Chemistry private tutor should be someone who understands the HSC chemistry syllabus well and can teach Chemistry in a clear and concise method to help you understand the course well. The tutor should also be someone who can guide you through common questions that are asked in Chemistry and help you structure the way you answer questions more effectively. As with any other tutor, they should be someone who can help you reach your maximal potential. However, most importantly, your tutor should be passionate about teaching, and passionate about Chemistry. This passion is what would ultimately make the tutes engaging and fuel your desire to learn more about the subject.
Succeeding in Chemistry has two stages. Stage one involves learning the content well, for example, if you want to learn organic chemistry. Stage two involves understanding how to use the content you have learnt to answer questions, whether this is in your SACs or at the end-of-year exams. A Chemistry tutor can not only assist you in learning the content but also in knowing the buzzwords to include in your answers and how to structure your responses in a better way.
