All I remember was shouting at the top of my lungs “MUM, DAD.” I scared the sh*t out of them I yelled so loud. They didn’t even know why I was so ecstatic. It took so long to sink in and to just say the words: “I did it. I don’t know how but I got a 99.95 ATAR”

Scholarship exam tutors to get an offer for your dream school 🏫

So… you or your child are considering sitting a scholarship exam. And why wouldn’t you? Selective schools best place students to achieve academically by offering a fast-paced environment for students to learn alongside like-minded, high-achieving peers. Or maybe you’re considering trying for a merit scholarship to a tuition-based high school, which creates an affordable alternative to the expensive fees of private school education.

Selective schools accept students based on their academic performance on a scholarship test – the ‘entrance exam’. The scholarship test assesses a range of skills across various disciplines in order to identify the highest-performing students in each cohort.

Depending on which state you are from, the test will be formatted slightly differently. However, each exam can essentially be broken down into four sections:

  1. Reading
  2. Writing
  3. Mathematics
  4. General Ability

Here are a few general tips for studying for the scholarship exam:

  • Get a scholarship exam  tutor! A tutor can help to familiarise you with the exam content and show you strategies for tackling challenging questions. In many cases, they are former selective school students who can offer personal advice and wisdom.
  • Go through the solutions after you finish a paper.  By understanding the solution to a question, you can formulate strategies to use for future questions (this is where a tutor can be really helpful, if you can’t understand why you got a question wrong).
  • If you run out of time before you get to the end of each section, don’t leave questions unanswered. The exam does not punish you for getting questions wrong, so give it your best guess!

If you ever need some assistance with your studies or subject specific help, KIS Academics scholarship exam tutors have a thorough understanding of the entrance exams and can assist in understanding curriculum requirements. Our tutors are able to provide materials and teaching on how to prepare for these scholarship tests thoroughly. As a year 11 student doing ATAR, I was looking for a tutor that could help me with French. KIS Academics was incredibly helpful and fast at finding me someone who could assist me with my studies. My tutor Eliza Carey over the past few months has helped me so much not only in French but in biology and maths as well. I’m incredibly grateful for the effort and commitment she has put into helping me be more comfortable and less stressed about the subjects I was having difficulty with. It’s been nothing but an honour to be tutored by Eliza and I strongly recommend her as a tutor

ATAR

Hi, my name is Jahanvi Shah and I am currently studying a Bachelor of Science at the University of Melbourne. I completed VCE in 2020 achieving an ATAR of 99.25.

I am super passionate about tutoring and love to spread my knowledge to all my students helping them excel in all areas of education. I believe I am an excellent tutor because for me all my students are different and I strive to create personalised learning experiences for all my students and am flexible to tailor my lessons to meet the needs of my students. In my classes, students feel comfortable discussing their feelings and concerns with me, allowing me to help them in the best possible way.

My lessons typically are tailored around the student's needs and usually, that involves going through theory and lots of practice questions from past exams because like they say, Practice Makes Perfect! I like to give my students exposure to all different types of questions that they might come across. I prepare them by giving multiple tips and tricks on how to answer questions quickly and correctly, so they are well equipped to tackle any question, easy or difficult.

In my spare time, I love to dance, travel, watch movies and spend time with my family and friends.

I'd be delighted to have you as a student in the year to come.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out! :)

Do you want to learn how to write a literature essay that'll get you 100%? Or maybe you need help rote-learning psychology concepts? Well, I’m here to help.

...

Hey there! I’m Zavier - and hopefully, your next tutor.

A bit about me:

  • I'm currently studying a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work
  • I have a deferred place to study a Bachelor of Psychology on a scholarship at Curtin University
  • As well as tutoring with KIS Academics, I also tutor Years 5-12 English with a local tutoring business, "Lisa's Lessons"
  • My hobbies include musical theatre, discussing philosophy, and being a coffee snob :)

My passion for tutoring stems from my impassioned belief in student-centred learning. All people should have access to a high-quality education, and oftentimes students are let down by an educational system which doesn't tailor its delivery to their individual needs. We all learn in different ways and have different strengths; as your tutor, I promise to take a judgment-free, empathetic approach to our sessions; listening to what your specific challenges are and providing you with the support you need to get the results you want!

Whether you want to improve your grades to get into a particular university course, or simply to beat your older sibling’s ATAR score, I’m here to help you reach your goals.

If you are wanting help with English, Literature, or Psychology, look no further than my page! Request me as a tutor and I'll set up a FREE study skills consultation so that we can get to know each other and I can find out from you how I can best support your academic progress.

ATAR

Hey everyone, my name is Ned Woodgate and I'm one of the KIS tutors! I've been through the hard first couple of years of the Queensland ATAR system, and now it's my job to help you navigate through it too. I'll help you realise your short and longterm goals, and hopefully make it as fun and easy as possible.

I graduated from my high school with an ATAR of 99.25, scoring very highly in Physics, Chemistry, Specialist Mathematics and Mathematical Methods - all subjects that I am very passionate about.

Throughout my secondary schooling I found out about how I best learnt and studied, how I could manage my time between hobbies, work, family, study, etc., and most importantly how to prioritise and adapt to everything life threw at me. Highschool -especially years 11 and 12- can get very busy and its super easy to get stressed, my goal as a tutor is to help you discover how you learn, how you can manage your time, and how you can deal with stress.

Outside of school my passion in life is music, and I love spending time at the beach with my mates. Highschool was a great and very successful time for me, and thats how it can be for you too.
