Let's be real, after 2 years of constant lockdowns, we're all craving some in-person real life interaction. If you've decided that online tutoring isn't for you, that's okay. Now that COVID is slowly going away, in-person tutoring is a great option again!
In-home tutoring allows students who may not engage well online to get some one-to-one help from someone sitting right in front of them (literally!). Here are some things to consider when choosing in-home tutoring:
Where you hold tutoring sessions can be a real hassle to organise, so it's important you know the options available to you. Some tutors are happy to do home visits and come to your house to hold lessons. This ensures you can be tutored in the comfort of your own home while still getting that face-to-face engagement. Some in-home tutors will request a travel fee if you live further away and need them to travel to you. This is only fair as it takes up their valuable time, effort and also petrol money!
Another option is going to the tutor's location. This could be their house, a public place or a library. This might take a bit of travel time on your part, but if you don't want to do online lessons, then the travel will be worth it to see your tutor in-person!
Finally, if you live a bit further apart, finding a middle ground is a great option! Libraries, schools and university campuses are excellent locations to hold lessons. You've got desks and study spaces, printers, powerpoints to charge your laptop and speedy wifi. These locations are great for tutoring and allow both you and the tutor to find a convenient location that works well for everyone.
Make sure to be proactive when it comes to preparing for lessons with your in-person tutor. Organising your notes and school work takes a bit of extra effort when you can't just click ctrl-f to search for it on your computer. Make sure to log into any online platforms like KIS Plus before your lesson to download the relevant resources for your lesson and print the worksheets out before you see your tutor!
There are a lot of moving parts to consider when organising in-person tutoring lessons. If you ever need some assistance with your studies or subject specific help, KIS Academics in-home tutors have a thorough understanding of their subjects and can assist in understanding curriculum requirements. Our tutors are able to provide materials and teaching on how to prepare for assessments thoroughly. As a year 11 student doing ATAR, I was looking for a tutor that could help me with French. KIS Academics was incredibly helpful and fast at finding me a wace french tutor who could assist me with my studies. My tutor Eliza Carey over the past few months has helped me so much not only in French but in biology and maths as well. I’m incredibly grateful for the effort and commitment she has put into helping me be more comfortable and less stressed about the subjects I was having difficulty with. It’s been nothing but an honour to be tutored by Eliza and I strongly recommend her as a tutor
“I got the top mark for my SAC which was really nice, and I think that’s all because of my tutor”
Medha / Year 12 Student
“It's been absolutely fantastic and it's just been a very positive environment for learning”
Amanda / Parent of a Year 7 Student
Hello! I'm Mirielle, and I bring a wealth of experience from both my academic journey and extracurricular pursuits. I graduated from Perth Modern School with an ATAR of 99.65 and am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours) in Humanities and Social Sciences, alongside a Diploma of Languages, at the Australian National University.
As someone who thrived in a dynamic high school environment—balancing rigorous academics, competitive gymnastics, netball, and a host of extracurricular activities like debating, Model UN, and mock trials—I understand the challenges students face in managing their time and staying on top of their studies. My goal as a tutor is to help you navigate these challenges with confidence.
I believe in personalized learning, tailoring each lesson to fit your unique strengths and learning style. Whether it's refining English essays, breaking down economic models, or honing history source analysis skills, I'm here to support you every step of the way. My approach goes beyond subject-specific content; I aim to equip you with essential study skills, time management strategies, and a broader toolbox that will serve you throughout high school and beyond.
Nothing is more rewarding to me than helping students master challenging concepts and watching them develop a genuine passion for the subjects I love. When I'm not tutoring or immersed in my studies, you can find me at dance class or engaging in university extracurriculars.
I'm excited to be a part of your academic journey and to help you achieve your goals!
Hi! My name's Dimitri!
I graduated from Mazenod College with an ATAR of 98.4 and am studying a Bachelor of Laws (Honors) / Commerce at Monash Uni. Through two years of remote learning, I tackled 6 VCE subjects including History Revolutions, English, Methods, Specialist, Religion and Society and Chemistry.
Outside of my studies, I'm a huge soccer fanatic. Don't be surprised to see me responding to emails at crazy times of the night while indulging in whatever competition is available to me. I have also played for many years and have been a part of team sports communities from a young age, so I totally understand the crammed schedules of students these days. I hope to use my experience to help students develop efficient study habits that provide drastic benefits and improvements outside the tutoring sessions.
For my VCE subjects, I offer extensive notes as well as support through the coursework to then transition into VCAA practice. For the younger year levels, I work to develop strong foundational understandings of concepts that'll translate into future success both in and out of studies.
Well, that's it from me! Feel free to ask any questions!
Hi my names Dinali and I am a recent year 12 graduate and a current med student at Monash.
I finished VCE with an ATAR of 99.85 and study score of 50 in Chemistry as the subject Dux of Presbyterian Ladies' College with +46 scaled study scores for every subject. However, although I really enjoyed learning chemistry, I knew that mastering the subject wasn't as simple as listening passively in class.
As a tutor I'm committed to help you proactively identify, practise and gain mastery over areas in content that you find hard to grasp in a classroom environment. As a recent graduate I know that throughout the year your commitments, areas of focus and learning style for chemistry will change. That's why I offer a range of lesson styles whether through weekly content summary classes, test style lessons simulating exam/sac conditions or even focussing on a more in depth analysis of past sacs to understand why you made and how to learn from your mistakes.
If you are ready to engage and feel confident with the ins and outs of VCE Chemistry, I look forward to hearing from you!
