Let's be real, after 2 years of constant lockdowns, we're all craving some in-person real life interaction. If you've decided that online tutoring isn't for you, that's okay. Now that COVID is slowly going away, in-person tutoring is a great option again!
In-home tutoring allows students who may not engage well online to get some one-to-one help from someone sitting right in front of them (literally!). Here are some things to consider when choosing in-home tutoring:
Where you hold tutoring sessions can be a real hassle to organise, so it's important you know the options available to you. Some tutors are happy to do home visits and come to your house to hold lessons. This ensures you can be tutored in the comfort of your own home while still getting that face-to-face engagement. Some in-home tutors will request a travel fee if you live further away and need them to travel to you. This is only fair as it takes up their valuable time, effort and also petrol money!
Another option is going to the tutor's location. This could be their house, a public place or a library. This might take a bit of travel time on your part, but if you don't want to do online lessons, then the travel will be worth it to see your tutor in-person!
Finally, if you live a bit further apart, finding a middle ground is a great option! Libraries, schools and university campuses are excellent locations to hold lessons. You've got desks and study spaces, printers, powerpoints to charge your laptop and speedy wifi. These locations are great for tutoring and allow both you and the tutor to find a convenient location that works well for everyone.
Make sure to be proactive when it comes to preparing for lessons with your in-person tutor. Organising your notes and school work takes a bit of extra effort when you can't just click ctrl-f to search for it on your computer. Make sure to log into any online platforms like KIS Plus before your lesson to download the relevant resources for your lesson and print the worksheets out before you see your tutor!
There are a lot of moving parts to consider when organising in-person tutoring lessons. Our tutors are able to provide materials and teaching on how to prepare for assessments thoroughly. As a year 11 student doing ATAR, I was looking for a tutor that could help me with French. KIS Academics was incredibly helpful and fast at finding me someone who could assist me with my studies. My tutor Eliza Carey over the past few months has helped me so much not only in French but in biology and maths as well. I’m incredibly grateful for the effort and commitment she has put into helping me be more comfortable and less stressed about the subjects I was having difficulty with. It’s been nothing but an honour to be tutored by Eliza and I strongly recommend her as a tutor
Hi, my name is Anthony. I'm a 3rd year Doctor of Medicine student at UQ and hold a BSc in biomedical science. Teaching has been a long-held passion of mine, which led to my 7+ years of experience as a private tutor for students ranging from late primary to high school and undergraduate university students.
I offer a broad spectrum of tuition services ranging from explaining very specific concepts to long-term maintenance of academic competitiveness. My teaching style is flexible to accommodate the unique abilities and goals of every student. I believe that all students can achieve academic excellence with a growth mindset.
Hey there! My name is Serena.
I graduated as the Music Captain and have obtained numerous subject awards throughout high school, including being the inaugural winner of the Dr Susan Stevens Principal Award in year 12.
Throughout primary school and high school, I have always accelerated in subjects such as Music, Maths and Science subjects which inspired me to pick the subjects that I completed: Music Performance, Math Methods, Specialist Maths, Psychology, Chemistry and English. I aim to teach you using my experience and study skills obtained in high school. I have also been teaching music instruments, music theories, and subjects since I was in year 9.
I am currently a biomedical science student at Monash. When I get a break, I love to practice my instruments and play with my dogs. I've got two toy poodles! Fun fact about myself, I actually play three instruments (Cello, Piano and the Harp) in which all of my instruments have either completed or currently working to complete my Licentiates or Fellowship degrees.
Hey! My name's Dhyan and I graduated as the DUX of Ashdale Secondary College with an ATAR of 99.80. Currently, I'm studying physics at UWA.
Navigating high school can be tough, especially since there's no "how-to" guide on getting great grades. Each student learns differently and the best way of developing effective study habits is by understanding which techniques work for you as an individual. However, since school becomes so difficult so quickly, It's easy to be overwhelmed and stressed out. This is where I come in. I'm someone who listens carefully to you as a unique student and can help you find your footing in the WACE Race through a mix of personal experience and targetted motivation. As a recent graduate, I know the courses I teach inside and out and can show you the nuances of each question type in a results driven atmosphere. We'll work together to develop healthy study habits and through hard work and dedication, help you achieve your goals.
I hope to hear from you, cheers!
