I’m currently a medical student at UQ, having previously completed a Bachelor of Laws (UQ) and a Bachelor of Applied Financial Advice (Griffith)—nothing prepares you for understanding how the human body works like Business and Law, right?

Learning ‘how to learn’ has been a journey I’ve been on since Year 10; like many people who coasted through their pre-senior years at school, I found it hard to cope with the fact that, all of a sudden, school and university weren’t exactly a walk in the park without some serious personal organisation, time management, and solid study habits.

The ups and downs I’ve experienced as I adapted my own learning style to fit what I needed for high school, a law degree, a financial planning degree (while juggling a full-time job), the GAMSAT, and then medical school have informed the way I coach and work with my students. I’m a passionate believer in the need to tailor a learning environment to each student’s individual needs and communication style.

If I’ve learnt one thing, it’s that a subject or course doesn’t have to come naturally in order to be mastered—all that’s needed is a patient and motivated teacher who takes the time to listen and learn alongside their students!
