A bit about me
Hi there, I’m Maddy. I graduated with a 98.60 ATAR and I’m now studying the nature of reality! Ok, well sort of; I’m studying physics (and some engineering) at The University of Melbourne - and I really love philosophy. In VCE, when I wasn’t debating or co-editing the yearbook, I made time to read, write poetry and half-finished screenplays, and go hiking with my family.
Throughout highschool, I consistently received academic excellence awards across English, humanities, languages, and STEM. I love science so much that I was even able to send an experiment that I designed to the International Space Station! This was from coming 1st Place in the Swinburne Youth Innovation Space Challenge.
While I’m deeply passionate about mathematics, I am equally an English-lover - achieving the highest study scores in my cohort in Literature (a raw 44), Philosophy (raw 45), and Media (raw 44) - all essay-heavy subjects. In fact, I was positively delighted whenever we had a timed essay coming up in class. I understand that for many students, the prospect engenders a deep terror and desire to be ‘sick’ that day - I know, that used to be me too. Being a DAV finalist and having spoken at Parliament House (our team won, too), I also know how to write and deliver a killer speech/oral. Whether you are struggling in English or need to hone your skills, I am positive that I have the experience and wisdom to help you excel, and maybe even look forward to writing. If you’re a scientifically-inclined student struggling with English, I’ve got you too.
I believe that any concept, however daunting, can be broken into simple and clear explanations that serve your personal learning style. Yet, my philosophy is that understanding content is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to thriving at school - more important is knowing _how _to learn. A large part of my highschool success came down to researching scientifically proven revision techniques, which I aim to incorporate into lessons for long-term success. No quickly forgotten explanations! This also gives the student the knowledge and confidence to pursue their own self-directed learning.
