All I remember was shouting at the top of my lungs “MUM, DAD.” I scared the sh*t out of them I yelled so loud. They didn’t even know why I was so ecstatic. It took so long to sink in and to just say the words: “I did it. I don’t know how but I got a 99.95 ATAR”

Personality Matching

Meet your tutors

Meet your child's tutor and get to know a little bit more about them and their teaching style.

They'll get to know your child on both an academic and personal level, and then make sure that they're a good fit to do tutoring together - this is where the team building starts.

Making sure your child and the tutor get along is the MOST IMPORTANT aspect of this meeting - which is why we offer the study skills consult for free. Building a good team relationship is our #1 priority

Initial assessment

Past Performance

Your tutor will pinpoint your child's areas of strength and weakness with surgical precision.

By asking a series of highly-targeted questions and evaluating their past performance, we'll figure out exactly what areas need improving and simultaneously, what talents can be nurtured.

future planning

Future dreams

Every child has goals and dreams -and it's our tutor's job to find out what they are and determine an actionable strategy to move towards those goals - no matter how great or small.

We’ll come up with a strategic plan of action to dramatically increase your child's confidence and grades in the classroom (specifically tailored to their needs)

As a year 11 student doing ATAR, I was looking for a tutor that could help me with French. KIS Academics was incredibly helpful and fast at finding me a wace french tutor who could assist me with my studies. My tutor Eliza Carey over the past few months has helped me so much not only in French but in biology and maths as well. I’m incredibly grateful for the effort and commitment she has put into helping me be more comfortable and less stressed about the subjects I was having difficulty with. It’s been nothing but an honour to be tutored by Eliza and I strongly recommend her as a tutor

Joanne Liu

Hi there!

My name is Joanne :) I’ve been a maths tutor for almost 4 years now, and I hope that I can help you in your journey to understand what can be a tricky field.

If you feel like you are falling behind in Maths and just can’t keep up or you just don’t understand what’s going on, I can help you. I have an effective and easy-to- understand teaching style which will focus on: helping you understand maths, how to write good articles, improving your weaknesses, whilst also refining your strengths. I will create a personalised plan to help you achieve your goals. I have plenty of resources from kindergarten to senior years, which I will tailor to your needs in the most efficient and enjoyable way possible.

I have worked at a tutoring college, where I helped Year 12 students develop their mathematics in Extension 1 and 2 (HSC equivalent of Specialist Maths and Maths Methods). I also currently tutor students in Victoria. In addition, I have participated in many Australian maths competitions, including the UNSW Mathematics Competition (my photo is still displayed on the main page of their website).

I currently study Medicine at Melbourne Uni, but I love to go to the gym and go on hikes in my spare time. I also love photography!! (I have way too many photos on my camera roll).

Hey, my name is Benjamin and I graduated high school in 2019 as the two-time Dux of Brisbane Boys’ College with a 99.95 ATAR, and near-perfect study scores in all of my subjects.

Currently, I am a Chancellor’s Scholar at the University of Melbourne studying a Bachelor of Biomedicine (Chancellor’s Scholars) and Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) Program.

I have now tutored over 30 Year 7-12 Students in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, English, Further Maths, Maths Methods and Specialist Maths in person or online.

I’ve also mentored dozens of students with Year 12 Study Skills and Strategy Consultations over the phone.

Trust me, I’ve been there before. That was me not so long ago, a year 12 student feeling stressed, directionless and worried that when I got my ATAR text at the end of the year, I’d be left disappointed, broken and questioning what the future would hold.

But I made it. And I can help you do the same!

Lauren Savige

Hi! My name’s Lauren and I live and breathe business studies. In between studying a Bachelor of Commerce/Finance at Monash University and listening to my favourite Business podcasts, I spend my time helping VCE students ace Business Management I completed the VCE in 2017 at Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School achieving an ATAR of 98.80 and a study score of 50 in Business Management. I was also awarded a VCE Premier’s Award for the subject and the Business Studies Prize at Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar.

Since finishing high school, I have delivered lectures, tutored and written study guides for VCE Business Management and other commerce subjects. I aim to offer my VCE Business Management students information that relates the course to the real world – and hopefully, this will make your studies seem more interesting as well!

Jack Li

Hi! My name is Jack, and as a recent high school graduate, I know exactly how you must be feeling towards your own VCE journey. All the pressure you’re put under by your school, parents and yourself to do well will lead to a lot of one-nighters and stress throughout the year. I had my fair share of these moments when I was in Year 11 and 12 and my goal is to use my own experiences to ensure that you will be able to study in the best way possible and also have enough time to do the things you love.

While I was completing VCE, I juggled studying with playing in the firsts team for two sports, a lot of music rehearsals and school leadership duties. I was forced to organise my time extremely well and my busy lifestyle pushed me to find efficient and effective ways of studying. I learnt how to condense and breakdown concepts quickly and I believe I can maximise your academic potential and study efficiency.

Now that high school is over, I am studying Biomedicine at The University of Melbourne. Although I’m terrible at it, I enjoy playing tennis with friends and I also love to go for runs and play badminton.

Shameen Gaffoor

Hi students! My name is Shameen and I am undertaking a double degree in Economics and Law at the University of Sydney! As you can see from the subjects I tutor, I have an absolute obsession with mathematics. Although it sounds crazy, I really do love maths and it shows in my HSC results with a state rank in Mathematics Advanced (99/100) and Mathematics Extension (49/50)

My aim for lessons is to first develop a strong foundation of knowledge on basic mathematical concepts. After this has been established, we can work towards getting ahead of your class so you are familiar with the concepts before they have been taught to you by your teacher! I think it is important to strike the perfect balance between going ahead in class, but still ensuring the content is relevant to your upcoming assessment! We can work together to map out the order your school teaches maths topics in so that we can construct our lessons accordingly :)

Trust me, I have a HUGE pile of resources for mathematics that I would love to share with you. So if you are interested in Mathematics tutoring, regardless of your year level (primary to high school), you are more than welcome to contact me!

Aedan McMahon

I'm a current medical student with GPA 7, who graduated in 2015 with a high OP1 (ATAR 99.85). I've had over a thousand hours of experience in tutoring Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Maths Specialist, Maths Methods, English and German over the past five years. I was in the top 5 at BSHS, the biggest secondary school in Queensland, for every one of these except English (though I achieved a VHA 8 and ranked in the top 10 regardless). Since finishing school, I have obtained a Bachelor of Medical Science with Distinction (cumulative GPA 7). I'm now also employed as a tutor in Medical Anatomy as well as Neuroscience.

I believe my results with students speak for themselves, with my past students including a Dux of Brisbane State High School and Young Entrepreneur of the Year. In addition, I’ve specifically coached numerous students into a career in medicine. My approach to content sets my apart from other tutors, in the that I focus on making sure my students truly understand content at the deepest possible level rather than advocating simple memorisation. I also weave through my lessons principles of studying, taking exams and doing assignments to maximise effectiveness.

Hi! My name is Tamsyn and I graduated as Dux of Strathcona BGGS in 2019, with an ATAR of 99.90, including a raw 50 in Chemistry. Having just completed VCE, I am familiar with how stressful it can be. However, I am also very aware of how a calm, consistent approach with attention to keeping on top of key concepts and how to apply them, can lead to success.

I have a passion for Chemistry, but completely understand it is not everyone’s thing! I also have a strong knowledge base, having completed first year university maths and chemistry. Having already helped many peers with both the basics and intricacies of Chemistry, I would love to help you understand the mysteries of Chemistry and achieve your goals.

Akanksha Das

Hi, I'm Akanksha and although it has been almost 3 years since I graduated, it still feels like yesterday that I was stressing out because I hadn't done enough prep for my exams, or the fact that I hadn't gotten enough sleep.

For me, the experiences that a student has during high school shapes them and impacts who they are for the rest of their lives. During my time in high school, I was a very confused student. Not only did I not understand content fast enough, it was hard for me to study properly and to manage my time, and I had difficulty focusing and remembering why I needed to study. We all have moments at some point in our lives where we think we aren't going to do well enough or accomplish our goals. My aim is to use my own experiences to help you study in a way that helps you unlock your potential, help you to become more confident about the things you learn, and help you gain skills that you'll take through your life.

By the time it got to my WACE exams, I knew how to organise my time well, how to revise concepts efficiently, and how to identify my strengths and weaknesses in a subject easily. I believe that I can help YOU reach your potential.

A little about me: I am currently in my third year of a six year pathway in the Doctor of Medicine at UWA. However, I spend most of my time watching my favourite movies and tv shows such as The Office (US version only)- even when I'm at uni :P, dancing, and playing the piano and the ukulele.

Founder

Why should you even listen to us?

Hello there! I'm Manoj - the founder of Keep It Simple Academics (Or KIS Academics for short).

KIS Academics is an Australia-wide tutoring company that has helped thousands of students achieve their academic potential. Through these last few years, I've learned a thing or two about how tutoring works. Now it's my goal to grow KIS Academics and help more students across Australia achieve their dreams (and somehow complete my medical degree in one piece 😅)

In the last three years:

✅ We've helped C students get straight As.

✅ We've helped wannabe doctors get into Australia's best medical schools

✅ We've helped students who live in rural towns gain opportunities to go to metropolitan universities.

✅ We've helped students who hate maths find their passion for it

✅ We've even helped some students get into an IVY league college.

But rather than listening to me ramble on about how great KIS Academics is, book a free study skills consultation with one of our tutors and experience it firsthand!

Need help picking a tutor?

Private Tutoring

Frequently Asked Questions 🙋

What is Private Tutoring?

Private tutoring is the best option for anyone looking for individual, personalised help with their academic performance, especially for subjects like English, Math and Chemistry.

Private tutors can provide you with structured lessons to teach curriculum content, while also being flexible enough to answer questions as they come up, help look over assignments and assist in exam revision.

A high quality private tutor from KIS is not only a knowledgeable teacher who can answer all your questions, but an understanding friend who once had to face the same struggles that you are facing now.

Are your tutors any good?

You bet - you should check out our reviews!

KIS only hires the top tutors in each state.

We specifically hand pick and recruit the best tutors and top scorers of every year level, vet them with a thorough interview and application process, and then we take them through an intensive training program so that they become the best, most compassionate tutors who really know how to teach.

On top of that, we don't just hire the best, we treat our tutors well with top rates, personal development opportunities, plentiful resources for their subjects, and 24/7 administrative support.

Are your tutors qualified teachers or graduate students?

KIS Academics aims to hire young tutors who are relatable, friendly but also super smart tutors who are great at explaining things.
We firmly believe that tutoring should be delivered by someone with a different perspective to teachers at school. This ensures that tutoring doesn't just become another few hours of school, but a completely personalised time where students are taught in a very different, and better way.
You can read more about this in our blog post: Should I get a graduate tutor, or a teacher?

Why are some tutors more expensive?

KIS Academics has an extensive process for hiring tutors. When deciding whether a tutor should be Gold ($60/hour), Platinum ($90/hour) or Executive ($150/hour), our team evaluate factors such as academic performance, years of tutoring experience, feedback and reviews from students, university experience and degrees, other qualifications and overall performance within KIS Academics.

The biggest consideration when upgrading tutors to Platinum or Executive is years of teaching experience and positive feedback and results from past students.

As tutors develop their skillsets further and gain more experience and feedback, they progress through the three levels- ensuring high quality services to match the price they charge.

Here's more info on our pricing

How do payments work?

Payments with KIS Academics are super easy.
Your 30 minute study skills consultation with your tutor is free

After your first lesson, we'll send an invoice to your email. You can pay it with your credit or debit card, or using Google or Apple Pay, just like when you buy something online! You can also pay via direct debit. Please note that we don't accept any other types of payment method.

Please make sure to pay this invoice within 3 days of your it being emailed to you.

All future invoices are billed after and only after lessons. We can save your card details to make payments easier, but if you don't want us to, just let us know at [email protected]. We'll never charge you before a lesson, and you'll always receive a receipt via email.
Here's some more information on how our payments work: How should I pay my tutor?

How long are lessons?

Lessons can be as long as you'd like them to be!

Because we provide private tutoring, all our services are personalised to you. So... if you'd like to do a 2 hour lesson in one week, just let your tutor know. If you'd like to do a 30 minute lesson in another week because you're really busy, just let your tutor know. If you want to make all of your sessions 1.5 hours instead of 1 hour... you guessed it! Just let your tutor know.

We're flexible and lessons can be the perfect length of time for the student.

How can I contact my tutor?

To request a tutor, just press the "Contact Me" button on your tutor's page and send them a message.

Your tutor will get in touch with you directly by giving you a phone call or sending you a text message.

We recommend you save their mobile number as a contact in your phone, so you can get in touch with them easily in the future!

What happens during the study skills consultation?

Study skills consultations are a free, 30-minute meeting with your KIS Academics tutor.
While we are 100% certain that you'll love our tutors, students and tutors also need to have what we call a personality-match. Students need to like their tutor and be comfortable enough to share difficult problems, frustrating questions, and see them for a few extra hours every week.

So, during this consultation session, tutors will focus on getting to know their student, finding out what their strengths and weaknesses are and then building a plan on how to get the most out of tutoring. You can read more about it here: Free One-to-One Study Skills Sessions

How do I organise lessons?

You can organise lessons directly with your tutor - no need to download any apps or go to any websites, text message and email will do the trick!

Your tutor will be in contact with you via text or email to organise all lessons, meaning you can reschedule and reorganise lessons whenever you need to just by contacting them!

What happens during lessons?

Our lessons are completely personalised to the student.
Every lesson is unique, and the sole focus of the tutor is to help a student find their weak spots, then help them overcome these.
Because our lessons are completely personalised, what happens during lessons is entirely up to you!
If you have specific content or questions to go over with your tutor, you can do that with them.
If you don't, your tutor will have a vast array of curriculum resources and content to go through with you.

We usually recommend our tutors to spend the first part of the lesson working through any questions the student has, then to go through curriculum content together, and finally summarise and make plans for the next lesson at the end.

I want a different tutor, can I ask for someone else?

Yes of course!
KIS Academics prides itself on matching students with the best tutor for them . We are successful at doing this 92% of the time.
We rarely have people ask for a different tutor.
If you do need someone else, for whatever reason, please contact us by emailing [email protected] or calling us on +61 485 868 009.

What if I need to cancel a lesson?

That's okay! We know life gets busy, so we can be flexible around your schedule too.

All you need to do is get in touch with your tutor directly and reschedule the lesson for another time.

However, please keep in mind that we have a cancellation policy - if you cancel a lesson less than 1 hour before the time you arranged with your tutor, you'll get charged 100% of the lesson fee. This is to ensure our tutors' time is respected.

So please, if you need to cancel or move a lesson, do it well in advance!

You can find more details about this in our Terms of Service and Cancellation Policy

Can I get access to the online resources?

Yep! All KIS Academics Private Tutoring students will get access to KIS Plus. KIS Plus gives you access to 25+ Online courses for the Australian Curriculum worth over $12,000 dollars.

As a private tutoring student, you'll get access completely for free! Learn more about KIS Plus resources

Yep! You can find all the details in our Terms of Service.
