Yes, the rumours are true! Biology is unfortunately known for its notoriously content-heavy curriculum. Why? Because there’s just so many things you need to know. Simply carrying that gigantic biology textbook to and from school every day gave me unbearable backpain, let alone fitting it in my brain. Time is gold in VCE. As soon as you realize you are beginning to understand one topic, your teacher has already breeze through the next two topics with a SAC greeting you in two days. It is simply impossible to catch up! Flashback to all the mental breakdowns I had and one-nighters that I pulled at the start of 2018 when VCE became a reality. There are entire textbooks, websites, khan academy video and online resources dedicated to a single topic in biology. How many hours are you meant to be studying? What much detail are you supposed to know about one topic?

Ok…Ok… Before you start having a panic attack. It is true that you need to know the VCE curriculum inside out to get a high score in biology. Here is the ultimate secret. No one ever said a word about you being a biology expert.

One student once asked me, ‘if I memorise the whole textbook, can I get 40+ study score?’. Unfortunately, learning every single detail of transcription and entire 10 steps of glycolysis will get you nowhere. That knowledge is irrelevant to achieve success in VCE ¾Biology. Sitting down in front of your desk and killing all your brain cells just to cram the entire textbook and interfering with your other subjects is worthless unless you are studying the right content. To get a 40+ study score, even a 50, you just need to study in a condensed manner and efficiently. I don’t believe in memorising. I believe in the power of understanding.
