Hi there, my name is David Ramsay. I did the IB curriculum at QASMT, a STEM specialist school. I know that the IB has a notorious image for being super difficult, and while it can push students beyond the typical Australian curriculum, I believe anyone can perform well in IB. One obvious point to help achieve this is to balance your lifestyle and study, but honestly something even more important is having an appreciation for why you are learning the things you are in the IB.
As such, I wanted to construct this course to show students how to think like a mathematician. But seriously, IB Maths AA HL is tough. You need to be motivated and interested in the subject to achieve the highest grades. It can be very difficult to put in the work, as it is easy to think, ‘why bother’. This is why I feel it is so important to underline the thought processes to solving questions, not just presenting the answer quickly. By building up the foundation behind how to think about mathematics, it makes it much easier to actually do the mathematics. Hopefully, the course will make the math feel less daunting and more enjoyable.
I’m currently in my third year at the University of Queensland and am completing a Bachelor of Mathematics/Computer Science. I’ve always had a passion for maths, and definitely still enjoy my degree today
