I am an experienced English teacher with extensive experience teaching students from Years 7–12 and Years 1-6 across the Australian Curriculums. I was a classroom teacher for 14 years and taught Years 7 right up to HSC including English Standard and Advanced. I have taught in a range of secondary school settings as well as online, working with students domestically in Australia and internationally.
I have a Master’s degree in Literature/Poetry/Genre and Film and a CELTA (Cambridge English Language Teaching), giving me a advanced skills English literature and grammar and language development. My teaching experience includes the entire range of classes in Secondary School, including HSC preparation, essay writing, creative writing, responding to film, poetry, non-fiction, and fiction texts. I can help you develop comprehension, public/classroom speaking skills, reading skills, literacy , grammar, vocabulary and critical analysis.
My approach is highly student-centred and personalised. I take the time to understand how each student learns and then structure lessons around their individual needs, strengths and areas for improvement. I particularly enjoy helping students who lack skills and confidence in written and spoken English to develop the skills and strategies they need to become independent and successful learners.
I specialise in teaching students how to write clear, sophisticated analytical responses through developing strong, cohesive paragraphs. I help you develop a personal voice in your written, identify your favourite genre to read and write and confidence in verbal responses. Additionally I help you practice responding to exam questions under timed conditions. I can also help with class assignments or projects.
For younger students, I make English engaging and accessible through carefully scaffolded interactive Zoom activities that develop reading, writing and language skills. For senior students, I provide targeted preparation for assessments and examinations, with a strong focus on developing the analytical and writing skills required for high-level responses.
I use the Zoom education platform which has an integrated whiteboard and a suite of tools that enables both student and teacher to simultaneously write and edit documents. Additionally, Google/Word documents/assignments are easily uploaded to the electronic whiteboard for editing. I can also each how to use a specialised Graphic Design App called Canva and how to integrate this tool into your classroom presentations.
I am also able to teach University Students who are pursuing a degree in English Literature/Film/Poetry. I can help you develop thesis statements, show you how to research effectively and include citations in your essay.
For Hobbies I love reading, strength training and cycling and generally enjoy the outdoors.
