A bit about me - I am an experienced English teacher with extensive experience teaching students from Years 7–12 and Years 1-6 across the Australian Curriculums. I was a classroom teacher for 14 years and taught Years 7 right up to HSC including English Standard and Advanced.
I have a Master’s degree in Literature/Poetry/Genre and Film and a CELTA (Cambridge English Language Teaching), with advanced skills for teaching English literature, grammar and language development. I can greatly enhance your skills in essay writing that properly answers the question and flows logically with good transitions and paragraph structuring. I can instill a love of creative writing and how to enjoy the process of writing your own creative pieces. I can enahnce your presenting skills and public speaking in general. Above all I can instill a love of reading and how to become a regular active reader who can discern and analyse texts for themes, techniques, genre, style and tone.
My approach is student-centred and personalised. I take the time to understand how each student learns and then structure lessons around individual needs, strengths and areas for improvement. I particularly enjoy helping students who lack skills and confidence in written and spoken English to develop the skills and strategies they need to become independent and successful learners.
Lessons are interesting, relevant, engaging and accessible through carefully scaffolded Zoom activities that develop reading, writing and language skills. For senior students, I provide targeted preparation for assessments and examinations, with a strong focus on developing the analytical and writing skills required for high-level responses.
