Martha
Hi there. I’m Martha.
I’m currently a Visiting Scholar at the University of Sydney, and I just finished my PhD in English at the University of Oxford. I did my master’s there too, and, before that, I was at the University of Melbourne for a BA(Hons) in English and History.
I’ve been tutoring high school students in English and essay writing skills for the last five years. I’ve also worked as a tutor in English at various Oxford colleges, and I’ve been an interviewer for the undergraduate admissions process at a few colleges. My experiences in graduate school and as an undergraduate dissertation supervisor mean that I’m especially helpful for Year 11 and 12 HSC students working on extended writing projects, such as English Extension II and History Extension. At the same time, I have experience working with students from ages 8 to 22, and I’m happy to tutor English subjects for Year 4+ as well as History and Visual Art in Years 11 and 12.
I’m also happy to help with your college admissions essays and any university and scholarship applications that you are working on! I’ve held several significant international scholarships, so I’m keen to share my tips and insights.
My approach to tutoring always centres my students. I’m attentive to your academic goals and to the ways that you prefer to learn. We can focus on mastering the basics or on taking your results from great to exceptional. My aim is not only to make sure that you are submitting quality work and prepared for exams, but also to help you develop the independent study skills for success in high school, the HSC and your future studies.
I tutor online, from the Fisher Library at Sydney University and in Paddington. Get in touch if you live in the area and would prefer to have lessons in your home.
I’m looking forward to working with you!
