Jennifer
Hello! My name is Jennifer, and I’m currently working on my Masters of Biostatistics at the University of Sydney.
I completed my International Baccalaureate in 2017 – taking HL Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Literature and SL Psychology and Spanish ab initio. Yes, you read right – that makes 4 HLs! Whether you see it as reflective of my deep love of learning (my preference) or some uninhibited hubris is up to you – but for better and for worse, I know firsthand just how tough the IB can be and just how easy it is to go from keeping up with class to falling behind multiple topics at a time. With me, not only do I hope help you understand the content that you’re currently working on, but also work with you to refine your study systems and help you keep on track with everything; between TOK, CAS and an entire six subjects!
I have a deep interest in the actual process of learning – it’s something that’s incredibly simple at heart, and yet because of all our individual differences, the best way often comes to us differently. At its core, the best learning comes from repetition – and not just rote-learning, but meaningful repetition that will be retained far into the future, not just for your next exam. However, meaningful repetition isn’t something that can be so easily attained on your own – it’s adding meaning to repetition that I believe is the greatest value a tutor can offer. With all my students, I work deeply to discover what methods work for you and find patterns in the types of content you often struggle with. I put in a significant amount of time both before and after each session to make sure that I can deliver the best possible lessons in the short amount of time we have together each week and am always open to feedback about improving my own methodology.
I was a medicine student at UNSW in a previous life (with a UMAT score of 100) but I ended up taking the long road to finding out my passions lie in the field of mathematics. I’m here to pass it on, and so that you, hopefully, don’t end up doing the same.
