Hello, Guys! 👋
Hi! I’m Jacquelyn, a first year dental student at La Trobe University studying the Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours) with a Vice Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarship. I completed the HSC in 2025, doing the subjects English Advanced, Mathematics Extension 1 and 2, Biology, Geography, and Chemistry.
As someone who struggled to make their efforts equate to marks, I want to use my personal experience (and unfortunate breakdowns) throughout my time in high school to help navigate students to their own academic success, whilst still maintaining a balance between socials and studies.
Speaking of socials, I like to play volleyball with my friends, and of course, watching (or more so binging) Netflix in bed - all in the name of having a "study break", so I sure do know a few ways of overcoming procrastination that everyone, yes everyone struggles with.
Having been tutored throughout high school, I understand that a good tutor can be the difference between a student who cruises, and one that excels; one that casually completes their work as asked, and one that confidently submits their work.
After surviving many hours of staring at my work and making nothing of it except losing hair and having unmatched heartrates after downing energy drinks, it made me appreciate the hard work my tutors put in to support me. Not only did my tutors provide me with resources and feedback - they reshaped the way I understood the subject, and importantly, reignited my motivation and confidence.
As many times as you've been told this, confidence really is key. By setting realistic goals that help achieve the bigger picture, it not only boosts your ego (which I deifnitely needed), but actually builds knowledge that sticks for the long course - exactly what you need in the HSC year.
Tutoring isn't just "sit and listen" - it's teamwork. As part of my role as a tutor, I like to teach in a personalised way for my students, catering to their learning style and interests to help achieve whatever goals it may be efficiently. I aim to help drill down the foundations to ensure core knowledge is achieved, and tackle hard topics and questions at the student’s pace. By simplifying difficult concepts into easier, methodical thinking, I hope to help students grasp topics at a better and faster pace, thus offering strong understanding and individual confidence.
As we spend time together, I hope that you develop not only confidence in your skills, but have a passion for academics and a direction for your future.
Looking forward to meeting you :)
