George
G'day, I am George.
I am your unconventional, "unorthodox" tutor :-)
At the present time, I am not studying at Uni; Actually, I spent the last 18 years of my life teaching overseas electrical engineering students a number of topics ranging from Circuit Analysis to Feedback Control Systems. I do carry a number of degrees on my shoulders including a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Adelaide and a Master's in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from the Ohio State University.
But my professional life does not revolve around teaching only; during the past years, I've had numerous opportunities to tutor my struggling students in a face-to-face setting. One of my special skills is working with disadvantaged students, particularly since I struggled myself with learning in a disadvantaged environment with huge limitations (resources, knowledge, budget, equal opportunities, etc). Despite the difficulty, the "first generation student" that I am managed to reach great heights!
You may be asking yourself: "with all these achievements, why are you still interested in tutoring?! why don't you do something more ambitious?" Well ... I will :-). At present, however, I am going through a career transition period, and one of the best ways to keep my learning passion alive is to practice tutoring for the purpose of making a difference in peoples' lives.
Based on my past teaching/learning experience with my students, I've also had the chance to develop a very effective teaching/tutoring/learning philosophy that I called the "4CE" philosophy (pronounced "Foresee"). This philosophy is composed of five tenets:
1- Coaching 2- Critical Thinking 3- Continuity 4- Complementariness 5- Ethics
More on these tenets will be offered to my tutees in the days to come ...
Ciao for now :-)
