To me, one of the most importance parts of being a tutor is teaching effective study skills that can empower you to become the best student that you can be. I think what makes me a good tutor is that I have developed and practiced study techniques to retain information and meet assignment objectives which cover a wide range of different learning styles. This allows me to help build students’ confidence in all assessment items so that they can learn to balance school and everything else they enjoy. For me, that’s music, art and spending time with my friends and family. I’m currently studying a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Masters of Engineering. I’m thinking of specialising in chemical engineering at the moment. I’ve very familiar with all the struggles that students may face and the pressures that they find themselves under, and I'm prepared to offer support and guidance. I tailor sessions according to a student’s goals and the things that they believe present challenges. I’m also happy to provide advice with organisation and help put together a study planner to map out their assessment items and rolling revision. I have learnt how to successfully guide students through difficult problem-solving tasks, teaching methods for working through assignments and approaching complex questions. I have gained appreciation for the importance of positive feedback and encouragement, as well as helping a student remain accountable for their study. Through past experience, I’ve developed my skills in communication and adaptability, asking key questions to stimulate understanding and track progress.
