Amy
Hi there!
My name’s Amy, and I graduated with my Master of Teaching (Secondary) in 2022, and in addition to being a qualified teacher, I have over six years of tutoring experience.
In this time, I have refined my teaching philosophy and take a highly explicit model of teaching to empower students to realise their potential in a safe and supportive environment.
Specifically, some of my strengths include supporting students in how to effectively write using a range of text structures like essays (analytical and discursive), speeches, short answers (and source analyses), persuasive and imaginative writing, as well as skills including analysis of visual and written texts (plays, novels, short stories, non-fiction texts). Further skills that I embed into my tutoring include time management and exam preparation, including revision strategies.
At the end of the day, I love teaching both English and History subjects and feel that my knowledge in both fields enriches each of these subjects through their transferable knowledge and skills. Further, I am passionate about these subjects and believe that this translates into giving my students 110% of my attention.
Outside of tutoring, I enjoy reading (one of my favourite books is Station Eleven), gardening, photography and continue to enhance my tutoring skills by attending and listening to lectures on pedagogy, teaching strategies and content knowledge to provide my students with a flexible range of options and approaches that can be tailored to their learning style and goals.
