Riley
Hi, I’m Riley! I graduated from University High School with an ATAR of 99.15, and am currently undertaking a Bachelor of Science at Melbourne University, majoring in Mathematics and Statistics. I’ve always had a passion for maths, and have received a multitude of awards in recognition of my mathematical ability. This includes many High Distinctions in the Australian Maths Competition and the “Outstanding” award for the University of Melbourne Maths Competition 2024. My proficiency in mathematics comes down to having an intuitive understanding of mathematical concepts. However, I know that a lot of students struggle with gaining that intuition. Even if you know a mathematical formula, for instance, perhaps you don’t know the reasoning behind why it works. That’s what I try to bring into my sessions; along with improving your skills at solving standard textbook problems, I want to help you understand the “why” behind the maths. I think that this is a critical part of maths education, since many exam questions require you to use your maths knowledge in ways that you haven’t been taught. If you gain this intuitive understanding, you will be able to do this with ease. I am a kind and patient tutor who is good at making sure my students have understood what I have taught them before moving on to the next topic. I don’t spend all my time doing maths and studying - I enjoy playing music, watercolour painting, and musical theatre! Feel free to get in touch if you’re interested, and I look forward to hearing from you!
