What is Private Tutoring?

Private tutoring is the best option for anyone looking for individual, personalised help with their academic performance, especially for subjects like English, Maths and Chemistry. Private tutors can provide structured lessons to teach curriculum content, while being flexible enough to answer questions as they come up, look over assignments and assist in exam revision. A high quality private tutor from KIS is not only a knowledgeable teacher who can answer all your questions, but an understanding friend who once had to face the same struggles that you are facing now.

Are your tutors any good?

You bet. We only hire the top 3% of graduates in each state, after an interview, an application and intensive training, and our average tutor ATAR is 99.50. You can read verified reviews on our reviews page.

Are your tutors qualified teachers or graduate students?

KIS Academics aims to hire young tutors who are relatable, friendly and super smart, and great at explaining things. We firmly believe tutoring should be delivered by someone with a different perspective to teachers at school, so it doesn't become just another few hours of school but a completely personalised time where students are taught in a very different, and better, way.

Pricing & payments

Why are some tutors more expensive?

When deciding whether a tutor is Gold ($70/hour), Platinum ($90/hour) or Executive ($150/hour), our team evaluates academic performance, years of tutoring experience, feedback and reviews from students, university experience and degrees, other qualifications and overall performance within KIS. As tutors gain experience and feedback they progress through the three levels, ensuring high quality services to match the price they charge.

How do payments work?

Your first 30-minute trial lesson is free and no credit card is needed to book. After that you are invoiced after each lesson, never before, and can pay by card, Google Pay, Apple Pay or direct debit within 3 days. You receive a receipt for every payment.

How does Bring a Friend and Save work?

Request a tutor, invite one or two friends and everyone's lesson price drops. Bring one friend and save 14%: Gold is $60.20/hour each, Platinum $77.40 and Executive $129. Bring two friends and save 28%: Gold is $50.40/hour each, Platinum $64.80 and Executive $108. See the pricing page for the full comparison.

Lessons & trials

How long are lessons?

Lessons can be as long as you'd like them to be. Because our tutoring is private, everything is personalised: a 2 hour lesson one week, a 30 minute lesson the next because you're busy, or 1.5 hours every session instead of 1 hour. Just let your tutor know.

How can I contact my tutor?

Press "Book a Free Trial" on your tutor's page and tell us a little about the student. Your tutor is notified and gets in touch with you directly to arrange the trial lesson.

What happens during the free trial and study skills consultation?

It's a free 30-minute meeting with your KIS tutor. Students and tutors need a personality match: students need to like their tutor and be comfortable sharing difficult problems and frustrating questions. During the session, the tutor gets to know the student, finds their strengths and weaknesses, and builds a plan for how to get the most out of tutoring.

How do I organise lessons?

Directly with your tutor. There's no need to download any apps or visit any websites; text message and email will do the trick. You can reschedule and reorganise lessons whenever you need to just by contacting them.

What happens during lessons?

Lessons are completely personalised. The sole focus of the tutor is to help you find your weak spots, then overcome them. If you have specific content or questions, you can go over those; if not, your tutor has a vast array of curriculum resources. We usually recommend tutors spend the first part of the lesson on the student's questions, then go through curriculum content together, and finally summarise and plan the next lesson.

Can I get access to the online resources?

Yes. KIS Academics students get access to KIS Plus: our library of 30+ video courses, practice quizzes and exam masterclasses, available 24/7.

Changes & policies

I want a different tutor, can I ask for someone else?

Yes, of course. You can ask for a different tutor at any time. Email contact@kisacademics.com or call +61 485 868 009 and we'll find someone better suited.

What if I need to cancel a lesson?

That's okay. Get in touch with your tutor directly and reschedule the lesson for another time. If you cancel less than 1 hour before the arranged time, you'll be charged 100% of the lesson fee, out of respect for the tutor's time, so please cancel or move lessons well in advance.

Are there any terms and conditions?

Yes, you can find all the details in our Terms of Service and Cancellation Policy. In short: cancelling less than 1 hour before a lesson means you're charged 100% of the lesson fee, and payments are made online after a lesson and must be completed within 3 days.
