As a student myself, I always found the most rewarding part of subjects like Mathematics, Chemistry and Human Biology was getting past the initial confusion and reaching that point where something suddenly made sense. I bring that same approach into my tutoring. During lessons, I encourage students to explain their thinking rather than just tell me their answer. This helps me see what they already understand, identify gaps in their knowledge and work out exactly where we need to focus.
