Jake
Hello reader, my name is Jake and I'm currently studying Engineering and Science at Monash University! I graduated Dux of Algorithmics at John Monash Science School, and am one of only 118 in my graduating year to get 40 or higher raw study scores in every subject I completed in my twelfth year. I also received the Jackson Award for Chemistry from the Rowe Scientific Foundation in my first semester of university, and made the Dean's List for the Faculty of Engineering in my first year!
I believe that balance is one of the most important part of school, especially towards graduation. Students deserve to maintain a social life and fulfilling hobbies/pastimes throughout their education. As a tutor I aim to guide my students through finding study methods and workloads that they can maintain without overworking themselves. Burning out is always worse than slackening the reins for a few weeks.
I spend my downtime practicing archery, reading sci-fi novels or non-fiction, and making jewelry out of both metal and wood materials.
I have close experience with both sides of learning mathematics, as while I love maths and have grown very familiar with Year 12 and below mathematics, I used to struggle a lot, and disliked the subject greatly. As such, I hope to be able to meet students where they are, rather than standing at the top and demanding they climb up.
In addition to the subjects listed on this page, I can tutor VCE Algorithmics, and give advice on admissions into the entrance exam for John Monash Science School specifically.
