I am a qualified high school science teacher and HSC Biology specialist with over six years of tutoring experience, during which several of my students have achieved a Band 6.
My foundation in the subject began with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Biology. I was named on the Dean's Merit List in every year of my degree, graduated with a GPA of 6.783 out of 7, and was awarded several academic excellence scholarships and awards for my results. Throughout this time, I was already tutoring HSC Biology and guiding students to top results.
Having reached that level of mastery in the subject, I chose to go further.
I completed a Master of Teaching in STEM, specialising in HSC Biology, where I studied the science of learning itself, including the research and cognitive science behind how students take in, understand and retain information. I graduated with 100% in my final teaching evaluation and went on to teach HSC Biology in schools. Teaching the course from within the classroom has given me a thorough understanding of the syllabus, how each part of it is assessed, and precisely what markers look for in a top-band response.
Each stage of this path has built upon the last. Expert subject knowledge, a scientific understanding of how students learn, classroom experience delivering the course, and over six years of one-on-one tutoring have come together to consistently produce results.
Unlike other tutors who are pursuing a different career path and are only tutoring on the side, education is my career and life's purpose. Every qualification I hold and every year of experience I have gained has been dedicated to one goal, which is helping students master this subject and achieve their full potential. Your child will be learning from someone who understands the content, the exam, and the science of teaching it effectively.
These tutors teach the same subjects as Hiva and might be a good fit.
