A bit about me
Hi! I am Abhinav and as a kid who grew up near the Great Barrier Reef and loved snorkelling, I knew I would have to optimise my study habits by year 10 to make sure that I had enough time to socialise, play sport and study before year 11 and 12 hit.
I graduated high school with an OP 1 (ATAR 99.45) and am currently studying Doctor of Medicine at Monash University. In high school I weirdly enjoyed Mathematics (so much so that I did both specialist and methods in year 11 and 12). I also loved to teach! I was the head of the peer tutoring committee in year 12 and would help junior years with their homework and any questions they had about possible assignments.
After graduating high school, I continued tutoring mathematics and have had the pleasure of tutoring students with learning disabilities, students who are falling behind and students who want to excel their learning.
Although it is important to cover content, I believe it is equally, if not more important to teach my students how to learn and to strengthen their basics.
Throughout my tutoring career, I have learnt how to keep students engaged and spark excitement about maths by celebrating little milestones that we achieved. I also try to improve my students’ confidence in maths so they are less daunted by new and challenging concepts.
Setting healthy study habits with plenty of physical exercise and social leisure time ensured that I did not burn out during year 11 and 12. I have also adopted this in university which has helped maintain main a balanced academic/ social life.
