VCE ATAR results 2023: Victoria's top performing schools

View the results of Victoria's top-ranked schools based on 2023's VCE results.

This year more than 45,000 students have received an ATAR with an average rank of 69.31 for the 2023 cohort. Although this is a slight drop from 70.33 in 2022, we still saw a record-high number of outstanding results and perfect scores from 2023 VCE students. Here is a summary of the results achieved by some of Victoria's best-performing schools.  

  • The median ATAR score of the state is recorded to be 76.55.
  • 7.1% of Victorian students achieved an ATAR of 90% or above.

Top VCE results

This year, 30 male and nine female students (39 total) received an ATAR of 99.95, the highest possible rank possible in VCE.

Victoria's Top Performing Schools ATAR results

Ballarat Clarendon College (1st in the state)

  • 19 students (11% of the cohort) achieved an ATAR of 99 or above, placing them in the top 1% of the state.
  • 116 students (70% of the cohort) achieved an ATAR of 90 or above, placing them in the top 10% of the state.
  • Seventeen students achieved perfect Study Scores of 50.
  • The median study score was 39.
  • The median ATAR was 94.4.

Bialik College (2nd in the state)

  • 8.9% of students achieved an ATAR of 99 or above, placing them in the top 1% of the state.
  • 38% of students achieved an ATAR of 95 or above, placing them in the top 5% of the state.
  • 61.7% of students achieved an ATAR of 85 or above, placing them in the top 15% of the state.
  • The median study score was 37.

Huntingtower School (3rd in the state)

  • 12% of students achieved an ATAR of 99 or above, placing them in the top 1% of the state.
  • 41% of students achieved an ATAR of 95 or above, placing them in the top 5% of the state.
  • 70% of students achieved an ATAR of  90 or above, placing them in the top 10% of the state.
  • The median study score was 37.
  • The median ATAR was 93.5.

Mount Scopus Memorial College (4th in the state)

  • 7 per cent of students at Mount Scopus Memorial College achieved an ATAR of 99 or above, placing them in the top 1% of the state.
  • 37 per cent of students achieved a score of 95 or above, placing them in the top 5% of the state.
  • 56 per cent of students achieved an ATAR of 90 or above, placing them in the top 10% of the state.
  • The median study score was 37.
  • The median ATAR was 92.1.

The following schools are listed in no particular order.

Scotch College

  • 6 boys (2.6% of the cohort) obtained an ATAR of 99.90 or above, placing them in the top 0.1% of the state.
  • 21 boys (9.2% of the cohort) obtained an ATAR of 99.50 or above, placing them in the top 0.5% of the state.
  • 112 boys (48.9% of the cohort) obtained an ATAR of  90 or above, placing them in the top 10% of the state.
  • The median ATAR was 89.85.

Haileybury College

  • 12% of students attained an ATAR of 99 or above, placing them in the top 1% of the state.
  • 33% of Haileybury students attained an ATAR of 95 or above, placing them in the top 5% of the state.
  • 48% of Haileybury students achieved an ATAR of 90 or above, placing them in the top 10% of the state.
  • The median ATAR was 89.4.

Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School

  • 14 students (5% of the cohort) achieved an ATAR of 99.5 or above.
  • 23 students (14% of the cohort) achieved an ATAR of 99 or above.
  • 40 per cent of students achieved an ATAR of 90 or above.
  • The median ATAR was 86.15.

Melbourne Grammar School

  • 14% of students achieved an ATAR of 99 or above (top 1% in the population).
  • 35% of students achieved an ATAR of 95 or above (top 5% in the population).
  • 55% of students achieved an ATAR of 90 or above (top 10% in the population).
  • Fifteen students achieved the maximum score of 50 in one subject in 2023.

Korowa Anglican Girls’ School

  • 10% of students achieved an ATAR of 99 or above.
  • 38% of students achieved an ATAR of 95 or above.
  • 68% of students achieved an ATAR of 90 or above.
  • The median study score was 36.
  • The median ATAR was 94.10

Fintona Girls’ School

  • 8 per cent of students achieved an ATAR of 99 and above, placing them in the top 1% of the state.
  • 50 per cent of students achieved an ATAR of 95 and above, placing them in the top 5% of the state.
  • 58 per cent of students achieved an ATAR of 90 and above, placing them in the top 10% of the state.
  • The median study score was 35
  • The median ATAR was 95

St Catherine's School

  • 17% of students achieved an ATAR of 99 or above (top 1% of the state).
  • 39% of students achieved an ATAR of 95 or above (top 5% of the state).
  • 58% of students achieved an ATAR of 90 or above (top 10% of the state).
  • The median study score was 36.
  • The median ATAR was 93.4.

Caulfield Grammar School

  • 38 (9% of the cohort) Caulfield Grammar students have achieved an ATAR of 98 or above, placing them in the top 2% of the state.
  • 19% of students attained an ATAR of 95 or above, placing them in the top 5% of the state.
  • 33% of students attained an ATAR of 90 or above, placing them in the top 10% of the state.
  • The median ATAR was 82.5.
