Phase 1: Core Revision (Weeks 1–3)

(5–6 weeks before the exam)

Use this phase to revisit set texts, refresh your notes, and revise essay scaffolds. Aim for 2-hour blocks mixing textual study and writing practice.

Module Focus Areas
1 Common Module (Section I) Textual analysis: language, form, structure. Practise short-answer comprehension.
2 Common Module (Section II) Review prescribed text. Revise context, human experiences, themes, and purpose.
3 Module A Comparative essays: building arguments, adapting scaffolds, identifying values/issues.
4 Module A Perspectives, context, and conventions. Compare assumptions across both texts.
5 Module B Close textual study: formal features, content, context. Build critical essay responses.
6 Module B Secondary research: engage with critics, practise integrating perspectives.
7 Module C Discursive & informative writing. Develop flexible ideas and practise structures.
8 Module C Imaginative and persuasive writing. Practise reflection statements and exam writing under time pressure.

Phase 2: Practice & Application (Weeks 4–6)

(3–4 weeks before the exam)

Shift from revision to application: timed writing, past papers, and refining essay responses.

Session No. Module Practice Focus
9 Common Module I Comprehension + analysis of unseen texts under timed conditions.
10 Common Module II Timed essay on prescribed text (open book first, then closed).
11 Module A I Revise comparative essay structure; practise responding to unseen prompts.
12 Module A II Focus on values, assumptions, and perspectives across both texts.
13 Module B I Timed critical essay using past paper question. Emphasise depth of analysis.
14 Module B II Incorporate secondary readings and critical perspectives into essays.
15 Module C I Write a discursive and an imaginative response. Peer/self-mark against criteria.
16 Module C II Write a persuasive response + reflection statement under exam timing.

Phase 3: Exam Readiness (Weeks 7–8)

(Final 2 weeks before the exam)

  • Week 7: Complete at least two full practice papers (Paper 1 and Paper 2). Focus on timing, transitions between sections, and stamina.
  • Week 8: Polish essays, memorise key quotes, refine creative/discursive ideas, and practise writing opening/closing paragraphs quickly.

Tip: Rotate your modules so you don’t over-focus on one area. For example, pair Module B (essays) with Module C (writing practice) in the same day.

English rewards clarity, structure, and evidence. Go into the exam with adaptable essay scaffolds, a bank of quotes/themes, and flexible ideas for Paper 1 creative/discursive responses. And remember: keep your handwriting neat — marker fatigue is real!
