The following dates apply to NSW Government schools.

What are Western and Eastern Division Schools?

In NSW, schools in the Western Division start classes a week later than those in the Eastern Division. This tradition began because the Western region is hotter at that time of year. Delaying the start helps teachers and students avoid the worst of the summer heat.

Do Independent and Catholic Schools Follow These Dates?

Many independent and Catholic schools broadly follow the NSW Government school calendar.

However, some schools may have:

  • Different staff development days
  • Slightly different term start or finish dates
  • Additional pupil-free days

Always confirm your school's calendar before making travel bookings.

NSW Independent School Term Dates 2027

While many independent schools broadly follow the NSW Government school calendar, term dates can differ slightly. Most independent schools are members of the Association of Heads of Independent Schools of Australia (AHISA) and generally follow the schedule below.
