The annual moment of truth is almost here: the release of the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) for Year 12 students. For many students and their families, it’s a key milestone in the journey toward tertiary study. This article outlines the confirmed release dates for 2025 across Australia’s major admission centres, explains what they mean, and offers tips on what to do once your ATAR arrives.

Table of Content:

What is the ATAR?

Before diving into dates, it’s helpful to recap what the ATAR actually is. The ATAR is not a mark out of 100—it’s a percentile ranking. It shows a student’s position relative to all other Year 12 students in their age cohort.

The ATAR is the primary mechanism for university admission in most Australian states and territories. So, when you receive your ATAR, you’re receiving a rank that determines how you compare with your peers—not just how many marks you scored on exams.
